みなさん、こんにちは！青春島ブログへようこそ。今回は、大崎上島独自の歴史や文化を学ぶことができる、木江ふれあい郷土資料館について紹介します。

ホテル清風館の玄関から北東の方角に向くと、赤と青を基調とした船のようなものが、山沿いに立っているのが見られます。これは、船の難破の残骸ではなく、今回訪れる郷土資料館になります。清風館からは徒歩八分ほどの距離で、簡単に訪れることができます。

資料館の入り口に入ると、まず、照明が落とされた、神秘的な空間のロビーに入ります。このロビーでは、島から見える空の星たちや衛星、そして島を取り巻く瀬戸内の波が表現されており、昔の島にテレポートするかのような空間が作り出されています。

この資料館の展示物で目立つのは、造船や商船に関しての見本が多くあることです。特に木江は、古くから風待ちの港として、瀬戸内海貿易の中継地点として発展しました。一階には、島に寄る船乗員のための遊楽の女性、「おちょろ」達や、買い積み廻船の北前船などの姿を残した大正・昭和時代の貴重な写真や、島の一大事業であったマキハダ工場の再現などがあり、かつて栄えた木江の姿を形に残しています。

この資料館は、単なる展示物のコレクションではなく、かつて海運の要衝として栄えた木江の過去を知るための窓にもなります。造船と航海は、かつてこの地域の活力源であり、この展示は、何世代にもわたって受け継がれてきた道具、技術、そして伝統を紹介する展示品によって、この歴史に命を吹き込んでいます。歴史的な船の模型や船の部品のレプリカを見学することで、この町の造船技術がいかにこの島の繁栄に貢献したかを学ぶことができます。

2階では、瀬戸内の写真家村上宏治の写真展が常設されています。穏やかな海岸線、豊かな緑、島の静寂な雰囲気など、大崎上島の自然美を余すところなく捉えた素晴らしい写真ばかりです。また、島と海とのつながりも強調されており、きらめく水面に浮かぶ船や漁師たちの働く姿は息をのむほどです。

最後に、3階では船の船長の体験をすることができます！ここでは、外の海の景色を楽しみながら舵を取ることができ、船長になることを夢見る子供も、島の海の伝統に魅了された大人も、思い出に残る魅力的な方法で観光を締めくくることができます。

しかし、やはり何と言っても、この資料館の一番の魅力は、清風館の徒歩圏内であるという近さにあります。島に数日間滞在しており、あまり遠出をされたくないといった方は、この資料館まで足を運んでいただいて、落ち着いた雰囲気の資料館の中で、じっくりと島の文化や歴史について知っていただけたらと思います。
