Welcome to our latest installment on Youth Island blog, where my high school friends and I are excited to take you on a journey to one of our favorite spots on the island – Mikata Café. Nestled amidst the tranquil life of Osakikamijima, this café has become a beloved hangout for locals, including us.
As you step inside Mikata Café, you’re greeted by a flood of natural light, enveloping the space in a cozy warmth that instantly makes you feel at home. The café offers three distinct areas, each catering to different vibes and needs. Whether you’re looking for a quiet corner to bury your nose in textbooks or a lively community space to unleash your creativity, Mikata Café has got you covered.
Upstairs, a tranquil study and workspace await, providing solace for those seeking a productive atmosphere. Meanwhile, just to the left, a vibrant community area buzzes with activity, hosting everything from arts and crafts sessions for elementary schoolers to innovative workshops like the Mikata Labs program. It’s a melting pot of ideas and interactions, bridging the gap between generations and fostering a sense of unity among islanders.
Of course, no visit to Mikata Café would be complete without indulging in their delectable treats, infused with the island’s signature lemons. From seasonal lemon tea chiffon cakes to zesty lemon cookies, each bite is a burst of local flavour and culinary craftsmanship. Through our interview with the Mikata Café staff, Mrs. Akasaka, Mr. Katsuse and Mrs. Kobayashi, we were given the intel that these are in fact the most popular selling dishes so grab them while you can! And let’s not forget about the beverages – whether you’re sipping on a fragrant cup of Onomichi black tea or diving into a velvety matcha latte, Mikata Café’s drinks are as visually stunning as they are delicious.

青春旅ブログにようこそ、今回の舞台は私たち高校生が島で最も気に入っているスポットの一つ、ミカタカフェを紹介したいと思います。のどかな大崎上島の生活の中にあるミカタカフェは、私達を含め、地元の人たちに愛されている憩いの場所となっています。
ミカタカフェの店内に一歩足を踏み入れると、自然の光が降り注ぐ居心地の良い暖かさに包まれた空間が出迎えてくれます。
ミカタカフェは三つのエリアを提供しており、それぞれ異なる雰囲気やニーズに対応しています。落ち着いてスペースで勉強に没頭するもよし、賑やかなコミュニティスペースで創作意欲を爆発させるもよし、色々なニーズに合わせています。
2階には落ち着いた学習スペースがあり、集中力を高めたい人達に安らぎを提供しています。一方、そのすぐ左には活気あふれるコミュニティスペースがあり、小学生向けの図画工作教室から、ミカタラボのような斬新なワークショップまで、様々な催しが行われています。世代間の垣根を取り払い、島民の一体感を生む交流とアイデアの交差点なのです。
もちろん、ミカタカフェに訪れたのなら島の特産品であるレモンを使った美味しいスイーツを堪能しないわけにはいきません！
レモンの紅茶シフォンケーキからほろ苦いレモンアイシングクッキーまで、一口ごとに地元の味と学生達の職人技を堪能できます。ミカタカフェの赤坂さん、勝瀬さん、そして小林さんに取材したところ、実はこれが一番人気のメニューなのでぜひ今のうちにどうぞ！
そして忘れてはいけないのが飲み物です。香り高い尾道紅茶やベルベットのような抹茶ラテをじっくり味わうのもよし、ミカタカフェのドリンクは見た目も美しく、味わい深いです。
